Acupuncture for Menstrual Irregularities
I am a ‘Fertility Support Trained’ Acupuncturist, which means I have completed the Advanced Fertility Diploma, trained by Naava Carman.
This training is a worldwide recognised Gold standard of Fertility Acupuncture, and is focused on fertility through a Reproductive Immunology lens. This allows me to take a deep dive into any of your diagnostic results, and suggest any gaps in investigations Biomedical approaches, and to be your bridge between the medical field and a holistic one.
A healthy menstrual cycle is known as the 5th vital sign of good health, and gives us a window into the health of the body. Just because some symptoms are very common in women, does not mean they are normal or optimal, and can give us a clue that there are dysfunctions in hormones or too much inflammation. There should be no pain during the period (except for some very minimal dull cramping on day 1) no flooding, PMS, ovulation pain, nor a cycle longer than 35 days, or less than 24. If you have any of these symptoms, I can help!
How can this help?
In my clinical experience, I have seen cycles become more regular after acupuncture alongside supplements to help establish regular cycles. Among many other cases, I have seen a cycle go from 58 days long with a very short Luteal phase of 8 days, to a 29 day cycle with a Luteal phase of 12 days after 11 weeks of treatment. I have also treated where there was a complete absence of a cycle for 12 + months, and the cycle returned to a regular 29 day cycle with a successful pregnancy within 4 months of weekly treatments.
Acupuncture promotes pain relief in painful periods, and is significantly more effective at reducing menstrual pain than NSAID medication.
Acupuncture may also help alleviate PMS symptoms such as tender breasts, irritability and fatigue.
An Endometriosis diagnosis can take up to 7 years. In the meantime, women suffer with immense pain and many other symptoms such as bloating, changes in bowel habits, pain during sex, and low mood. It impacts fertility by creating inflammation, which can be a hostile environment for sperm and egg development as well as embryo receptivity. Acupuncture can help with calming the inflammation and pain in Endometriosis.
